Re: A PA with two rows of buttons on the left

I have 2 boxes with 2 rows on the left 12 buttons in all and set out in offset ''stradella'' fashion. The fact that they are so called diatonic is irrelevant and for what its worth one is both chromatic and diatonic! There have been many piano boxes with 12 ''stradella' including the very popular sm...

Re: Trying to improve sight-reading

I agree totally with the notion of playing scales etc in the key you are about to use and think that, as a broad generalisation, scale practice is regarded as something more for learners than experienced players. being able to rattle off scales on auto pilot is akin to 'knowing the route' along whic...

Re: Trying to improve sight-reading

just a thought! the difference sight reading progress on the box compared to the piano may well be related to the fact that pshychologicaly you are geared to constantly being able to see the keyboard on the piano ( even if you only have an occasional gander) it effectively gives you a 'comfort zone'...

Re: THANK YOU

To me the important thing is simply to share what you have learned so that others can perhaps use handy hints and tips to prevent them going up blind avenues. It is of course entirely up to others to decide whether anything posted on here by anybody is worthy of being a 'handy hint and tip' On a per...

Re: A Button Basher from York

Thank you for your kind words Chris! Stradella on a button box is in many ways easier to learn than 8 melodeon bass as the right hand does not have to be played so as to get the bellwows direction right for some of the bass. Also relatively few buttons need to be used eg just 6 to play bass accompan...

Re: A Button Basher from York

all 'melodeons' are 'accordions' but not all 'accordions' are 'melodeons'!

so some of us enjoy dual citizenship so to speak
