Re: Never a bad accordion

Paul, There are lots of accordions I would like to own, top of the list being a Weltmeister 120/41 (probably the Saphir) A very good friend of mine, a professional musician, owns a beautiful Bugari, and I can well understand your interest in that brand. If we all wanted the same things, we would all...

Re: Never a bad accordion

Hi Kirsten, I started out with a Galotta. (which I still own) I then traded up/down (delete which is inapplicable) to a very nifty Chanson. (again, which I still own) Now I own a lovely Hohner Arietta IV M 120/41, and may soon own another Hohner of (as yet) undetermined size. Serendipity has played ...

Re: Never a bad accordion

Hi Tony, Ha ha ha, I love your humorous response. Good for you. It is a fact, which you alluded to, that we should be happy with what we have. Good friends and a good name are worth more than Gold. As we see from the examples set by famous and wealthy pop & sports stars, money is not always a panace...

Re: Never a bad accordion

Hello Tony, George Washington himself criticised Noah Webster's famous/infamous dictionary, stating his objection as being the ruination of an expressive and nuanced language. It was Webster's obsessive revolutionary fervour which led him to break with traditional English spelling, and owes more to ...

Re: Never A Bad Colour.

Geoff,

It sounds like a brilliant solution, but I would be a little concerned about people standing on it or tripping over it in a folk club environment. I love the idea, but I will stick with hard cases for the time being.

Re: Never A Bad Colour.

Geoff,

The "satchel" sounds like an elegant solution to a vexing dilemma.

Donn,

If the person to whom you refer is the late, great George Formby, it may interest you to know that he lived, as a child, about half a mile from where I was born and raised.

Kind Regards,

Stephen.

Re: Songs without words

Hi Phil,

I can play accordion .......... I can sing ........... I just can't do both at the same time.

There are two exceptions to this rule: "The Wild Rover" & "Wild Mountain Thyme." I can (sort of) sing along with those.

Best Regards,

Stephen.

Re: Silent practice on acoustic accordion

Hi Phil, I'm still with the "play gently" idea. Some of the other suggestions have merit, but removing reeds seems a little extreme. I play my accordions to fit whatever environment I find myself in. At Folk Clubs, I tend to pump the bellows a little harder. At home, a bit softer. For Care Homes & P...

Re: Wigan Central.

Please do not worry about the date for this event. It is definitely the 22nd of October, even though the Wigan Central website shows another date. Jon is currently in the process of amending his own website, and he has asked Wigan Central to do the same. Anyone who has not seen Jon Brindley perform ...
