Re: How do I measure tuning of my accordion?

Paul said
If you use the MM register you should not hear any tremolo on any single note if the instrument is dry tuned.
I do wonder what would be the point of this for two reeds ( usually clarinet ) of the same pitch? Double the volume?

Re: How do you interpret current state of an accordion's tuning?

Paul deBra said The line that should be all 0 deviates too much: it should all be between -1 and +1 (may be -2 to +2 for the lowest notes). The deviation of -5 for C4 is too much and the -8 around F4 is way too much. The tremolo lines show a pretty normal curve if you extrapolate/interpolate but it ...

Re: Dry and Wet Tuning--Terminology Question

What is wrong with this theory? - If you have a LMMM accordion you can have it both dry and wet tuned at the same time, i.e. if the lower and middle reeds are tuned at say 0 cents and the upper one is tuned at +20 cents then playing the two lower reeds together ( violin ) gives a dry tuning and play...

Re: How do you interpret current state of an accordion's tuning?

Hi Jerry Maybe something like a +, - 2-3 cent variation is closer to being acceptable for an amateur played accordion used for the sake of pleasure and easier for most people tuning accordions to accomplish. Most men/women in the 50+ year old range might not even hear that much difference. The tuner...

How do you interpret current state of an accordion's tuning?

Brandoni.pdf I have just measured my accordion's current state of tuning and would greatly appreciate comments from more learned members as I am curious to know how these readings can be interpreted, i.e. what conclusions can be drawn from these measurements, etc. Incidentally these readings are al...

Re: Geriatric Fun.

Hi Stephen,
The film that Doris Day sang that song in was one of my all-time favorites "The man who knew too much" and she co-starred with Jimmy Stewart. Given that Jimmy was well known as an accordionist wouldn't it have been great if he had accompianed her!

I don’t like those ( chord progressions )

Moving on from “I don’t like that” I have to say that there are some pieces specifically written for piano accordion where the chord progressions are, for want of a better description, “strange”. It’s not that they are particularly difficult to play, just that they sound weird. Or maybe I just don’t...

Biggest Accordion

Had a visit by a giant today over here in the Wirral, UK.
What a shame that he didn't bring his accordion!
What's the biggest accordion in the world, functional or not?

Re: Geriatric Fun.

Hi Stephen, I guess that your choice of songs has a lot to do with whether you are playing solo or in a group. I would say that these songs will be great for playing in a group, such as you are, but would probably not go down too well played as solo accordion. I say that because they are generally s...

That's not from the 60s but from the 70s. This one in particular is a 1972 version.
The "chart of models" is from 1955 and the brochure from 1972/1973 as you say.

Re: New acoustic piano accordions with built in mikes

I think a recording set up like this shows the importance of having two microphone placements. Having the second microphone for the bass really brings the bass passages home. This chap plays both acoustic and electronic but personally I much prefer acoustic, probably due to good external set ups. ht...

Re: I don't like that

Alan said I have mixed feelings about making "I Don't Like That" an actual board on this forum. I wasn't suggesting having an actual board on this forum called "I don't like that" as an alternative to "I like that". It was just a thread title for discussion to see if there were "standards" that the ...

Paul, In terms of songs I absolutely do not like: a dutch "classic" called "de vogeltjesdans" (translates to "the small birds dance"). I don't like that

We have a section called "I like that" but I wondered if there are accordion "standards" that you don't like. Here is one that I don't like ( I am assuming that this particular song may indeed be recognised as a "standard". This has been discussed elsewhere on the forum already ) - La valse d'Amelie...

Vintage accordion sound

I love the sound of vintage accordions but don't know the adjectives that describe them. Here is such a one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcYRTOOXd7Q Does anybody know what the song played on the first two registrations ( clarinet and musette ) is? Also, how you get 4 registrations out of 2 couple...
