Re: FR-8x sound Grand Piano Sound

I find all piano sounds on the FR-8X to be terrible. I found all piano sounds on my Petosa Millennium to be horrible as well. I've also found that even when using a sound module with very high quality piano samples they sound terrible on the accordion. I guess I really just despise the sound of a p...

Re: How long before we wear out our FR3 XB?

in my experience with my older fr7, i had a bad audio board. But that was because when I plugged in my audio cable, I may have bumped it with my knee, causing it to fail connection. Had to replace little board. The push buttons maybe the second most wear part, after maybe a million + presses :o . Th...

Re: FR-8x: Sets, WA Set, User Programs ...

Larry, I think each of us is focusing on a different aspect of this topic and we have begun to move off in different directions …. you're talking gigs while I'm just trying to understand how this new V Accordion works. I'm talking about using the cheat sheets to help me figure the thing out ….. not...

Re: FR-8x: Sets, WA Set, User Programs ...

I’m sorry Jerry but I did not make myself clear on my previous post (which seems to happen often). I think we all know that Noel's sets are delivered as files and that any set or program file, including his, can be imported or exported from a flash drive. I was referring to the very useful informat...

Re: Learning the FR-8x

I cannot recall the name but Roland has cone out with a sound module that offers something lIke 6000 sounds and is the top of the line module on the market today. Of course it is several thousand dollars too. I think the bk-7m isn’t too bad. Layering with accordion would be something to try. When i...

Re: Learning the FR-8x

Honestly, I think it is more of an issue of familiarity than anything else. You got used to the sounds of your previous V-accordion and now that you are having difficulty finding those exact sounds on an 8X, and feel it is a negative. I think a better attitude is to accept that this is a new accord...

Re: Learning the FR-8x

Thank you, Larry, for your sensible advice. I'm working on that path. I think I can improve my orchestral sounds a lot by finding the right MFX and modifying them, as well as the Sound Edit values. But I do not have enough knowledge in sound editing. Can you suggest a bibliography on that subject? ...

Re: Learning the FR-8x

Strongly agree, Larry. I do not think it's a good idea to buy and use other people's personal sounds. Roland has taken away 'normal' sounds and has 'given us' many hours of work to recover them. It is not an honest policy. When I first received my 4x, it sounded very hollow. No wonder, the ...

Re: FR-8x: Sets, WA Set, User Programs ...

I agree with Kep on the Richard Noel sets. I’m a brand new FR4X user (just one week) but while doing my pre-purchase research I made the decision to buy and load the Noel sets on the very first day …. and I did. My experience with keyboard synths over the past 20+ years has taught me that I am NOT ...

Re: Learning the FR-8x

I will, I hope soon. My main problem is with orchestral sounds. In the FR-5 there was almost nothing to adjust; they were OK from the factory, without filters or special effects. In the FR-8x are greatly modified by the MFX multi-effects. I will start by removing them. My old FR7 almost nothing to ...

Re: Midi din ports being fazed out?

thanks for the feedback! so you found the keys okay? i thought they were spring-loaded but they are not that bad then? Yes, action in my opinion is very good. The keys are large almost like piano keys. I compare the key bed more like expensive models. I think Roland did a good job on this. You migh...

Re: Roland FR3X vs FR4X

No Keymn, the problem hasn't been "nailed" yet :) … there's not a thing wrong with the clock/calendar in my computer … it's just that my new 4X still thinks it's midnight on April 1 2015. I see that you have a 4X also … does yours get the date right when it writes files that are exported directly t...

Re: What’s on YOUR Accordion case?

Getting ready to do a bit of sewing. All of these patches say something F20872E4-9A00-4F37-95E4-A3580B6A1C1D.jpegabout my road. Leaving a spot for my “I Am a Cider Drinker “ patch from Goblinko. What’s on your case? All the best, Eddy If you been there, done that! Why not sew it on your case! Gives...

Re: Roland FR3X vs FR4X

New 4x question: My 4x is just a few days old and I am still working through the initial orientation. I am seeing that every file that has been written to the USB drive is dated 4/1/2015. Is there a clock/calander in the FR4X that needs to be set? It would be very helpful to have backup files dated...

Re: Midi din ports being fazed out?

Could you post some feedback about the Roland Go Keys when you get to it? I've considered it as a portable stage piano once, but never got the chance to really test one. Would be nice to hear the opinion of a performer. I just bought one at a local electronics store. Fryes Electronics. The key bed ...

Re: Roland FR3X vs FR4X

I'm trying to install the FR-4x Editor to my Windows 10 computer but cannot seem to make it happen. The zip file that I downloaded from http://www.roland.com/support included the file called FR-4X_Editor.jar which I understand to be the installation file but my Windows 10 machine will not open it. ...

Re: Backstraps

I've used backstraps all my life, and it is very likely one of the main reasons I can play today. Without that support, my Morino would kill my shoulders and back and even the much lighter 8X gets its backstrap used each time I wear it. There is a lot more control, better weight distribution and it...

Re: Good Gigs, Bad Gigs

I just latched on a German Restaurant gig. The strange thing it was a Country Western Bar. I proceeded to play my accordion German music mixing in some of those country Nashville classics. Many were saying they were not knowing what to expect, some old guy playing oompa? (They got the old man part ...
