Re: Meditation on FR4x

I have a Yamaha MG12XU. Unless someone knows different, it is only one channel USB interface no different from your steinberg. I tried the USB on this and it made noise. Probably something I adjust or connections. But do not want to deal with it at this time. Not sure about Behringer? Indeed you ar...

Re: Meditation on FR4x

Hi Jerry, I see you are using a Mackie with FireWire interface. How do you use this these days when FireWire is a thing of the past and no laptops support it? I ask as I was offered a FireWire mixer the other month and I couldn’t see how to shoehorn it into my preferred setup. I’m still using my Ste...

Re: Effective Effects

I always see compression having two uses. Musical or technical. Compression can be used to musical and artistic advantage and is a common use in popular music. It can also be used as a technical means to shoehorn a dynamic range that exceeds its recording carriers ability. A bit like 18 bits into 16...

Re: fixed do or moveable do

Very interesting piece of history and a nice resource. Certainly more compact for simple melodic lines than current traditional notation.
A number system would however be a visual disaster for instruments playing chords and harmony. Just imagine a Chopin prelude rendered in this scheme[emoji15]

Re: Matching bellows performance on Roland accordions

I can’t do bellows shake on my acoustic very well so I’m not expecting much on my Roland[emoji4]. Like Jerry I experience a clear change in bellows action when switching between accordions but I think it is worth it for the ease of expression with the Roland. I don’t think it’s possible to copy the ...

Welcome to the forum. You clearly have a lot of musical experience to bring us here. Maybe the posts on learning multiple instruments may be of interest to you (if you haven't seen them already). Look forward to your participation.

Re: Piano or cromatic accordion?

As an aside to this discussion we cannot ignore the history of how these keyboards were designed around solving a technical issue, namely how to get the right force to the right part of an instrument at the right time. You couldn’t imagine a mechanical piano or harpsichord with button keyboard as th...

Re: Baby steps fixing an accordion. Thanks!

Good luck with your repairs. You are getting really well by the sound of it.
The top note being a semitone high sounds quite a lot. You don’t mention the key range but is it a note you need often?

Re: learning many instruments

I’ve been playing piano since wearing short trousers. Have now played accordion for around 15 years. Piano helped me immensely. This last year I’m trying to teach myself guitar. Have I done something that’s going to torpedo my piano/accordion playing or will the skills I’ve learned about music over ...

Re: Hohner Bravo II 48 vs Roland FR-1X

My advice us don’t buy a new accordion at the outset. A decent used one will be more complete and if you buy well, you can sell it on again at the price you bought it if you want to upgrade.

Re: where do i go now?

Muscle memory doesn’t exist. Only practice. Play things you like and don’t even dream that your muscles are memorising jumps. Your brain tells your muscles what to do and if you don’t know what you are doing because you don’t practice with enthusiasm, then no hours of simply jumping between F# and A...

Re: You Tube channel recommendations?

Moneterisation is now not an issue with posters having merely thousands of followers. That’s simply not enough any more. The rules have changed recently and I can be pretty sure that nothing accordion related can be moneterised on YouTube. On the other hand, subscribing gives you a heads up when new...

Being a subscriber supports the person posting the video (accordionist need all the support they can get) and their videos pop up to the top when they have new stuff.

Re: More Roland Expansions

Have you listened to the sounds Jerry? Are they worth kicking out the standards?
Maybe a future OS update will allow us to swap expansions easily whilst in play mode. However, if you’ve incorporated some expansion sounds in a set etc. then all is not well.
