Re: Tone perception

If you play in the room next door, you will most likely not get any interference between wet and dry signals [emoji4] Only joking of course but I cannot see how to avoid your problem unless you really crank up the volume and even then you will hear your own accordion sound so you’ll need in-ear moni...

Re: Roland FR-8x vs. Bugari EVO Haria P41

Hi Alan, You mention key rods and pallets so that air flow is natural depending on how many keys are pressed (ignoring whether a register has 1 to 5 of the LMMH switched in for the moment). Thus you note there is no stepper motor which I believe is the mechanism Roland use to open/close a valve to s...

Re: Roland FR-8x vs. Bugari EVO Haria P41

Alan, if the EVO has no “stepper motor” as you call it, does that mean there is no such thing as bellows curves etc. on that instrument?

Hot hot hot

It's simply too hot to play my accordion.
After 10 minutes I'm dripping and I'm sure it's not good for my instrument.

What is your solution? Are you down the pub instead?

Hi Mike. That’s a nice repertoire and obviously a huge amount of work going into your collection.
Tell us a bit about your recording practices and what you are hoping to achieve.

Re: Collective Nouns.

What’s wrong with “bunch” or “load”?
I sometimes refer to them as my “roomful” of accordions but if you keep them in the shed or caravan I guess that wouldn’t work.

Re: Try to Remember....

When I used to gig as a keyboard player I had each piece on a single A4 sheet in a transparent plastic folder with notes, words, music etc. To assemble a playlist I would sort them into the desired order and clip them into a ring binder. I would then make a written playlist on paper to send around f...

That truly is accordion abuse. Should be a law against it.

Re: Meditation on FR4x

I have a Yamaha MG12XU. Unless someone knows different, it is only one channel USB interface no different from your steinberg. I tried the USB on this and it made noise. Probably something I adjust or connections. But do not want to deal with it at this time. Not sure about Behringer? Indeed you ar...

Re: Meditation on FR4x

Hi Jerry, I see you are using a Mackie with FireWire interface. How do you use this these days when FireWire is a thing of the past and no laptops support it? I ask as I was offered a FireWire mixer the other month and I couldn’t see how to shoehorn it into my preferred setup. I’m still using my Ste...

Re: Effective Effects

I always see compression having two uses. Musical or technical. Compression can be used to musical and artistic advantage and is a common use in popular music. It can also be used as a technical means to shoehorn a dynamic range that exceeds its recording carriers ability. A bit like 18 bits into 16...

Re: fixed do or moveable do

Very interesting piece of history and a nice resource. Certainly more compact for simple melodic lines than current traditional notation.
A number system would however be a visual disaster for instruments playing chords and harmony. Just imagine a Chopin prelude rendered in this scheme[emoji15]

Re: Matching bellows performance on Roland accordions

I can’t do bellows shake on my acoustic very well so I’m not expecting much on my Roland[emoji4]. Like Jerry I experience a clear change in bellows action when switching between accordions but I think it is worth it for the ease of expression with the Roland. I don’t think it’s possible to copy the ...

Re: Piano or cromatic accordion?

As an aside to this discussion we cannot ignore the history of how these keyboards were designed around solving a technical issue, namely how to get the right force to the right part of an instrument at the right time. You couldn’t imagine a mechanical piano or harpsichord with button keyboard as th...
