Re: New Year's Wishes

Happy new year to everyone. Hope it’s a good one. Just wrapping up a New Year in Venice (I know, privileged). Only heard two accordions here these last few days and they were boxes with keys missing and played by someone who could move the bellows and look pathetic at the same time. Here’s hoping to...

Re: A little more Christmas spirit!

Fine old recordings Jerry. It’s great to look back sometimes as it gives you inspiration to go forward and make new music. I like the idea of multi-tracking as it provides huge opportunities to produce music you wouldn’t be able to create live. On the other hand I guess you have to keep your skills ...

Re: Accordion New Year Resolutions

I plan to retire in 2018 so I’m loath to commit myself to any one resolution as I hope to be so flexible that I’m able to do anything on a whim (if my wife agrees).

Re: chords in a key

Fortunately, music isn’t a set of equations that can be read like a computer program. I advise using your ears and “feeling” what sounds best. The three note “radius” rule you made up will work for many songs but you will have to try whether it’s major, minor or diminished. Sent from my iPad using T...

SILENT NIGHT - Group participation!

Here's my puny effort. Tried to alter the chord voicings but not sure it's worked. Would have been better if I had written it down and practiced it more than a couple of times :) Think I kept knocking the recording lead with my knee as there are a few crackles that I cannot explain. Maybe I should t...

Re: muscle memory

George is of course right, muscles don’t have memories but they do have access to one in the cloud. It’s known as the brain. Our experience of one moment doing it well and the next getting it horribly wrong if unfortunately quite common. Always ensuring you sit with the same posture and accordion po...

HAH! Let me see what I can come up with tomorrow on my 8X, not sure it will be any better, but I need some kid of mini project to test out if the Glucosamine and Condroitin are helping my fingers any. :)

Re: Elkavox 83 Owners' Manual

Welcome Roque, Congratulations on your “new” accordion. Hope you have many pleasant hours learning to play. I can’t help you with your electronic problems but I can tell you that even if you had the electronic tone generator working the sounds that are made are not very impressive by today’s standar...

Re: "Cure" for hand pain when playing

I’m intrigued to read your results from this deceptively simple experiment. I wonder why this hasn’t been done by health professionals so that they can give a definitive answer and endorse a treatment from a professional standpoint rather than let patients self medicate? Must be more to this than me...

Re: Czardas, composer Vittorio Monti

Welcome to the forum. Just listened to your recordings and am impressed by your progress with the accordion after only a few months. Well done. Czardas is indeed a wonderful piece of music and very challenging. It’s a tough one for a beginner. If I were you I’d make sure you played other pieces of a...

Re: how do I practice bass jumps?

Not quite sure about Robot as a name[emoji4] Seriously though, Robot to Greg jumps are not that common but waltz pattern from say B to Bb is something one comes across. To be honest if the jump is further than one can rotate the wrist and still reach then you will have to learn the slide. I know it’...

Re: how do I learn bass lines

Neither of these two videos has bass “patterns” in the sense of a regular pattern. The first one has a number of interesting things that an accordion stradella bass could do ranging from chord stabs to legato bass notes. The second piece had very little bass structure at all in the way it was played...

Re: how do I learn bass lines

No silver bullet for that problem I’m afraid. Just practice and more practice is the obvious answer. Try attempting new styles to get some hours of bass playing with new rhythms and bass fingering. Then go back to what you play best. I find the there is “cross fertilisation“ between practice session...
