Re: "Same Advice"

I was looking for this but I couldn't find it recently when we had that 'discussion'....

May be worth having it up as a sticky that we can refer to without someone peeving over the realisation that their vintage instrument isn't going to fund their aspirations.

Re: The Music Game

Hi Tony, Good post, thanks. To avoid confusion please try to keep the match line 'clean'. Comments on the line before are fine but a space and then your game contribution on the bottom line is good and clear. We've had people match on an included comment before, and then felt disgruntled/embarrassed...

Congratulations. I hope it didn't affect that vintage smell too much.
Good luck.

Are you saying the blocks are interchangeable? If so, whichever you prefer the sound of - you can always change back in a few minutes..

Re: Scandalli ladies' size accordion worthy?

So Soulsaver you mean his accordion might be made in China? The owner didn't know when and where it was made, but I definitely trust Italian craft skill at that time more. Thanks again. :) Eh? I'm saying this accordion is definitely NOT made in China. Indeed maybe no Scandalli has been made in Chin...

Re: Scandalli ladies' size accordion worthy?

I`m not sure about accordion prices down under but $1000 Aud sounds high , even though the Scandalli name plate can command a bit more. However this one is pretty old (60+ yrs) and you have to assume the wax and valves are dried out with a good possibility that the accordion could be soon due for s...

Re: Scandalli ladies' size accordion worthy?

Hi Acon - Yep, the reeds are smaller but not a lot, you won't find it an unacceptable difference. I have a 1950s ladies Hohner in my collection and it sounds really great, lovely tone. It's not my main, but it might be, depending on neck/shoilder issues. Some may say with smaller size you may have t...

Re: Are my playing days over?

Shoulder injuries are tricky to self diagnose/treat - some require rest, some exercise, and maybe some of the latter, different exercise than others.
Easy in the UK, self refer to NHS physiotherapist via your GP's surgery & pray you get a good one - or research to find a good private one & pay....

Re: Problems removing the Spindle

find a good accordion tech, they have tricks to do this I believe it involves heating up or electrifying the spindle, so it first expands, and then shrinks when cooling down We know the tricks, too, and whether you take it to a tech or not, electrifying carries significant risks and would be a last...

Re: Problems removing the Spindle

Always take the line of least invasive action first - avoid turning irritation into a disaster... removing the spindle can be one of the most difficult & risky jobs on accordion So, as above, let it dry completely and see if the problem resolves. Then come back for further advice and see what opinio...

Re: LMMM with high reed?

I knew that question would come up, but it's a one line eBay message question and reply - not a blog. How it got to it's modified condition, when and whether it's an acceptable outcome is up to interested parties to follow up on. Nigel won't have done the work, he'll have bought it or taken it p/ex ...

In a very prompt answer to my question via eBay, which included asking whether it may be 5 voice -

"hi it is a 4 voice that has been retuned from LMMH to LMMM I hope this helps.

Re: LMMM with high reed?

But looking at the photo there is a musette registration with 3 Ms and two other registrations with a H in them and so the correct description must be LMMMH surely? Yep - I looked at the master and read the text - didn't notice the additional key with MMM. LMMMH would normally have more register sw...

Re: LMMM with high reed?

Possible typo. It either isn't LMMM as registers suggest it's LMMH.
Or the H reed has been replaced with a M, in which case I'm sure Nigel should have said.

Why not message him and see what he says about it.

Re: Help ID this Arnold

There was a bandoneon maker Earnest Arnold & subsequently his son, Alfred Arnold. The manufacturer tags on those instruments located on the net suggest German manufacture.. I could see images of a couple of other PAs with Alfred Arnold on, although earlier than yours. Yours looks to be 1930s maybe a...

Re: Practice Time

so far nobody has mentioned the ' fermentation' process that goes on in the subconscious. When practicing a tune or particular part thereof seems to be getting nowhere despite ones best efforts just leave it alone for a week or so to ferment! Very often when playing/practice of 'that' tune is resum...
