Royal Academy of Music Events, London, 1-2 Feb 2017

I only just heard about these. On 1 Feb (tomorrow) at 10am there is a masterclass for RAM students open to the public to watch:

Accordion Masterclass with Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi, Professor of Accordion at the Conservatorio Torrefranca, Vibo Valentina, Italy. Free, no ticket required.

On 2 Feb (Thursday) at 7:30 pm is a recital featuring Professor Pietrodarchi on bandoneon together with students of the Academy in a concert called The Art of the Tango.

These events have been superb and mind-expanding for me in the past. Even if the thought of watching someone have a music lesson sounds strange, the master classes are very interesting because they're all about how to get as much music as possible from the instrument.

And on 24th Feb is another masterclass, this time with the great Friedrich Lips.

Thanks for the heads up Matt. I'll have to miss it this time but I intend to spend more time in London starting next year so perhaps have a chance to observe in 2018.

The recital last night was excellent. The first half consisted of performances by RAM accordion students, playing together, solo and with various colleagues (viola, guitar). The second half was Professor Petrodarchi backed by a string quintet.
Absolutely wonderful throughout.

Any chance that someone took some video of the event and posted it somewhere?

I'm very pleased to hear the concert was so good. Was it all tango music?

I remember at the RAM some time ago, Mikka Vayrynen noticed someone filming him and told them to stop - it wasn't a request either! But times may have changed since then...

The recital was all tango - lots of Piazzola and a few others I've never heard of.
The hall is quite small with a low stage, so all you could see was the performers' heads unless you were right at the front. The audience was asked at the beginning not to film or record.
