The bippus arrived

Post by wout » Sat Nov 03, 2018 1:02 pm

So my Bippus arrived finally! Its by far the best instrument ive owned. Its very light, has an amazing tone and feels very compact. Ive made some pictures of it and its all in perfect shape! It seems it has Antonelli reeds. Any comments on the make are welcome. Ill see if I can post a video of it soon :)

Nice looking accordion. My God, 13 switches, including duplicates?

No duplicates. Its has a clarinet switch in chamber and one out of the chamber. Plus a switch with the piccolo and detuned middle reed :) so 13 unique registers.

Congratulations! Looks like a winner. Antonelli reeds (just like Salpa reeds) means the accordion dates from before (or around) the time Antonelli and Salpa merged to become Voci Armoniche, which is 2002.
Best of luck with this fantastic instrument!

Thanks so much! It was bought new in 2009 but perhaps been constructed earlier or used an old batch of reeds? Anyway im happy. Anyone got some recomendations on a book specifically for balkan/serbian music?

Constructed a bit earlier and using old stock of reeds are most likely both the case. I worked on a Hohner Gola bought in 2003 and it has Salpa reeds, so that too must have been using a batch of Salpa reeds still in stock. Large companies like Pigini and Bugari go through reeds fast enough to not have old stock but I guess Bippus does not (and neither does whoever makes the Golas now).

Hi wout,

Beautiful accordion. Try this link covering both dugmetara (Serbian 6 row B system), and PA. It is available as a download at cost, and is in two volumes if the first one is any good. Don't know anybody who's tried it, and I'm only drawing attention to the fact that it exists.

OK, it's a beginner's book, but might be worth trying out for techniques etc.

I don't know much at all about Serbian/Balkan accordion, other than I like listening to it.

There is a book called East European Folk tunes for accordion, and it comes with a CD. Tunes are pretty basic, but probably a good grounding in Balkan type music.

Quite a lot of free Serbian stuff on here, although some of it is in Cyrillic script.

I came across this as well: http://www.folkloretanznoten.de

Might be useful for some people. Tons of free sheetmusic.

Great find Wout. I play some Greek stuff, mostly by ear, but this will help plug one or two gaps I had trouble working out!

Thanks for posting the link.

I like the name as well :) gives it something less serious :D So Ive written mister Bippus himself to try to find the origin of my instrument. He says he designs the instruments, uses multiple firms for construction in Castelfidardo and ofcourse uses only high quality materials. The tuning etc. he does himself in his workshop.
Interesting! Well I can only recommend his work
