Genius! Never thought of it from the commerce POV. PA does look more familiar and user friendly to beginner. Great point!

They seem to have been sold as "New, Modern," "Not like the old country" (immigrant assimilationist), and also as transferable to the still common but expensive middle class piano.

The finto-piano "false piano" accordions with CBA keyboards disguised as pianos are part of the shaming of button-boxes. It seems to have had a pretty strong effect. The shift from button to piano accordions in North America took less than ten years between the 1920s and 1930s.

I can't help but think that not carrying 13 different CBA's put a lot of pressure on dealers behind the scenes to sell that shift to the public however they could.
