MMMH

Post by wirralaccordion » Fri May 19, 2017 10:46 pm

There are many LMMM accordions available but are there such animals as MMMH accordions?

Reason for asking is that I prefer to play at the top end of the treble keyboard as it's easier on the wrist.

When you say "top", are you talking pitch or distance from the floor?

A web search for "accordion mmmh" turns up a few hits that look suggest the answer is "yes." I'm going to leave it to you to investigate further.

Any accordion with a set of four reeds sounding - MMMH - will reproduce the sound of someone strangling a cat in any octave played !!

Competent cat strangling should be fairly quiet, though I'm just guessing.

The only example video I could find is sadly very poor audio fidelity, and a steyrische helikon bass thing rather than a chromatic accordion, but there you go:

Of course, such an accordion in a normal chromatic configuration would naturally give you the choice of MMM and MH combinations, as well as the full set.

So anything with a set of 5 reeds and the appropriate couplers could do it. That would be the violin setting in particular. Yeah... I actually *like* that register/sound... no "cat strangling" there, but that is on an accordion with standard German fairly dry musette tuning. On something more "radical", I can seeing it being a bit harsh. :)

I agree. The MMH reeds are available on many accordions and they can be a very sweet combination.
