female for knurled screw

Post by jozz » Wed Nov 07, 2018 10:14 am

In an attempt to make road side repairs faster and not having to rely on normal screws and screwdrivers I hope to replace them with thumb screws like you see on every decent accordion:

https://www.thomann.de/nl/hohner_knurle ... morino.htm

or

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Schrauben-fur- ... 1545568448

Now I have no problem finding these screws, but I have a hard time finding its female counterpart that screws into the wood. At hardware stores I find them but mostly not the right sizes (too deep).

Anybody that knows of a website that sells these (cheap) and ships to Europe/NL?

"Threaded inserts" ?
If need be, buy the right diameters, preferably in brass, and cut them down to the length you want? Maybe screw them part-way into scrap softwood as a way of holding them while you cut off the waste. Obviously some cleaning up with a file etc. will be needed.

Not entirely sure about the size, but Carini has all this kind of stuff.

Are you complaining about 2,84 euro (for all 25, including VAT)?
Seriously?

It only shows prices (not including 22% Italian VAT) after you log in.
With Carini it only really makes sense to order when you need to order a lot more, to offset the shipping costs.
But generally I have been very happy with the prices there compared to any other store I found that sells accordion parts.

Hi Jazz. From my highly developed and well polished observational powers, I don't think that this is that type of forum.

That is the problem with the Carina site and shop: if you are somewhat unsure what it is you need you really need to visit the shop... in Castelfidardo. Not an option for many of us (it is roughly 1.400km from where I live) but certainly worth an occasional visit when you are an accordion repairer.

You might try -
https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Computer- ... humb+screw

https://www.amazon.com/Zinc-Plated-Pron ... nut+6%2F32

You can epoxy the T-nuts in.
I've used this solution for 25+ years now - on wood, drill & epoxy in - for metal, drill & install T-nut backwards and solder in.
I've used both 6/32 & 8/32 T-nuts. You can also find them metric and for the knurled knobs - well there's many on the market to pick from.
As for the screws well there's many to pick from such as-

Can't find it quickly but I have seen the type of bolts (used for fixing the grille) in the physical store so it should be on the site somewhere. But that site is so hard to use and a lot of parts do not have pictures...
