First practice

Post by Bohemiansecret » Sat Sep 17, 2016 7:37 am

Selwyn 8yo
He had never held accordion in his hand before. His first practice ever.
Asked me to record his first practice. My eldest son helped us to put it on youtube and point it to a new accordion account. If you could encourage him there please ... I am old school forum kind of mum :D

I also looked at all 3 videos and tagged them with a "thumbs up". A great start!

With proper encouragement and practice he will improve every time he plays. :)

To look for inspiration, one obvious place is to have him search on YouTube and see and hear all kinds of music played on accordion and develop his preferences. Another place is to play with other accordionists and also make sure he enjoys playing in front of others. Being in the digital age sure makes it easier to maintain interest! In my early playing days, there was no internet and I maintained interest by sheer will and motivation. Taking private lessons, listening to other accordionists and playing in a group of accordionists as well as participating in competitions kept my fires stoked. I was also invited to play at pretty much all family functions, and that was always a lot of fun. :)

There is a lot of potential there! {} :b

Thank you gratefully for that.
Hopefully God will connect us with more of wonderful accordion people in "real" life too.

Great advice from Jerry. Yes, the internet gives amazing opportunities to hunt out accordion role models to inspire and motivate him. He can listen to a wide range of styles, including younger players doing less traditional funky/rock/pop music. He obviously likes performing to camera so harness that extrovert personality and get him playing for people. But - he needs to know that to be worthy of an audience he must practice hard so that whatever he is performing is the very best he can play.
